Tennessee Annual Work Plan

The following initiatives are the focus of the Tennessee annual work plan for 2010-2011.

Initiative 1 Goal: Build the capacity of the SEA to promote the effective use of data in Tennessee.

Objectives:

  • Build the capacity of the SEA to effect change in low performing schools.
  • Increase the capacity of the SEA to promote the use of effective, data driven instructional strategies in all schools.

Initiative 2 Goal: Build the capacity of the SEA to promote an equitable and high quality education experiences for all Tennessee students.

Objectives:

  • Increase the capacity of SEA to ensure access to a high quality education for all students.
  • Support the SEA to build the capacity of teachers, teacher leaders, school level administrators, and district level administrators.
  • Support the SEA in its work to build alignment with common core standards.

TN Year 4 Work Focused on Leadership, the Statewide System of Support (SSoS), and Classroom Instruction
ARCC's recent work with the TennesseeDepartment of Education (TDE) focused on the following:
  • Assisting TDE in the refinement of the Statewide System of Support through the use of the WAGS appraisal process, STATS, and AGE trainings.
  • Building the capacity of TDE to improve the leadership in low-performing schools across the state by utilizing tools such as a review of research and data collection on principals' needs.
  • Assisting TDE to explore and implement strategies, such as equitable distribution of effective teachers, standards peer review, and high school redesign grant process, that would increase SEA capacity for providing assistance to increase the instructional capacity of classroom teachers around newly developed content standards.
  • Assisting TDE to explore and implement strategies that would increase SEA capacity for delivering services to migrant students, such as implementing a migrant education comprehensive needs assessment.
  • Assisting TDE in developing a process for establishing a 2% assessment for students with disabilities.
