Six types of teacher- and school-initiated parent involvement:
- parenting
- communicating
- volunteering
- learning at home
- decision making
- collaborating with the community
Research findings:
- Parent and community involvement has a positive effect on student academic achievement.
- Parent and community involvement has also impacted attendance, aspirations for postsecondary education, enrollment in challenging high school curriculum and successful transitions from special education to regular classes.
